Stranger Things: Season 2

In about 2 days I watched the second season of Netflix's Stranger Things. Let me just tell you that it was very satisfying. It might not have been as creepy or as scary as the first season, but it still incorporated everything people loved about season 1.

First thing first, I love the fact that we got to finally see Lucas’s family and his sister was one of the highlights of this season. She was hilarious and deserved more screen time. But back to Lucas. He was also given a new love interest, Max, who he had to fight for her attention with Dustin. I enjoyed Max and thought she was a great addition to the group, though everyone else besides Lucas was rude to her and she should not have had to deal with that. But it was funny seeing Eleven get jealous of her. Drama is the best. But when it comes to her stepbrother I want to punch him in the face several times. If his only reason for not like Lucas is because of his skin color, then I’m just aggravated with him and whenever I see him I want to through whatever device I’m watching the show on at the wall.

I love Dustin and think he’s hilarious but why must he do such a stupid thing, like treating this unknown species (later we find out it’s a Demogorgon) from the Upside Down like a pet. Look where it got him, having to bury his mom’s precious cat Mews. That cat just wanted to live its life and now that dream is over. #JusticeforMews

Now, in season 1 Mike’s affection towards Eleven was annoying to me but I grew to love their young love for each other. It was hard seeing Mike call on the walkie talkie in search of her each night and then finding out Eleven heard him but couldn’t reply because it might lead to harm. Though Mike was too hard on Max and could have eased down a bit on her. I did not understand how it was so easy for him to let Eleven into the group, but so frustrating to let Max in. like what did she do to you. Let me go off topic a bit, Finn who plays Mike did a fabulous job in the movie It. Back to Stranger Things, Mike seemed a bit like a hypocrite to me for getting angry with Lucas and Dustin for liking Max.

I was not a big fan of Eleven’s short journey into the city to find her “sister.” It was heartwarming that she found her mother but the whole tries too hard to be outsiders gang was a little too much. I get we get to see Eleven learn more about herself, but those new characters were not that amazing and didn’t help with the story. However, I do hope in season 3 we do see more of Kali and see if there are more out there like them. I also feel as if we did not get to see Eleven use her powers a lot like last season, which was very disappointing. Her curly hair was awesome though.

But I did love the Hopper and Eleven, father and daughter dynamic. It was good because I think Hopper kind of thought of her as one since he lost his own. And Eleven is a preteen with attitude and just wants to do what she wants. Those scenes were some of my favorites. And will the writers of this show have Eleven eat some real waffles, not some Eggo rubbery waffles

It is time to go down that sad moment where the one who we thought is normal and is too good to be true dies. That person is Bob; forget about Barb. A lot of people were skeptic of Bob and thought he was bad and he could not be trusted. I on the other hand thought he was pretty much a “Bob.” That average Joe, who just wants a family to come home to after work and have those close father and son relationships with that very platonic name. The moment I saw he was with Joyce, I knew he was a goner. The show had to have death at some point and the moment Bob said someone had to reprogram the computer or whatever I knew his time on Stranger Things was over. The thing is when he made it to where the exit was, I was like for quick second he might live. But then my mind quickly thought Hopper and Joyce must wind up together and Bob must die for that to happen. Also, he was standing a far distance away from her ad it looked like something was going to jump on him from the side (which something did). So, all I can say is #JusticeforBob

The winner for best character this season goes to Will. Last season he did not get much screen time and this one the show gave him plenty, they really made up for it. Will was one who drove the plot of the movie, though he got all those people killed in the Hawkins lab, being the spy and all to the shadow monster. Pushing that to the side, Will brought the intensity this season and gave me nightmares about his experiences in the Upside Down.

I almost forgot to talk about o talk about the love triangle involving Nancy, Steve, and Johnathan. I knew from season 1 Nancy and Johnathan were going to wind up together and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

All in all, this season was satisfying, funny, dramatic, heart-breaking, and all around amazing. I cannot wait to have to wait at least another year to see the next season. Yay!!

Movie Review: I Feel Pretty

I don’t tend to hate on a lot of movies, because I always seem to enjoy any movie I watch in some way. However, this one was a bummer. I enjoy Amy Schumer as a person and her other movie Trainwreck was hilarious to me, but I Feel Pretty just didn’t go well. A short summary of the movie would be about a not skinny, but not fat woman gets knocked out falling of a bike at soul cycle. Then after waking up her confidence gets boosted and she believes she is drop dead gorgeous. She can apply to the job she wanted and ask some guy out. The ending message is your beautiful no matter what size you are or how you look. Though the message was plan and simple it was hard to understand that coming from Amy Schumer. Schumer is not skinny, but she is not fat either. She’s also not what you would call ugly. So, I don’t get how they were trying to portray her as that. However, besides the iffy message being told this movie was supposed to be a comedy. Walking into the movie, mos...

Movie Review: Happy Death Day

I am not big into horror movies and some may say that Happy Death Day is not really one, it is more like suspense. However, I enjoyed watching this movie. What is so incredible about this film is that it had a low budget and an amazing piece of work came out of that. I also recently found out that this movie was made by the same person, Jason Blum, who did Get Out and Split and I love those two. I was watching Screen Junkies on YouTube and they said something I totally agreed with. That is if you get a good director/producer on the film, a good story, and not a big budget then there is a better chance the film is going to be good or even one of the best films of the year. When you give people a bunch of money they just waste it on the top actors and actresses of Hollywood and on special effects that take away from what the film is about. The only question I had that kept running through my head was why Tree (main character) got the chance to find out who killed her repe...

Movie Review: The Shape Of Water

I was finally able to get to watching some of the Oscar nominated movies of 2018. The first one I got to watch was The Shape of Water which to me was just a lovely story set in 1962 Baltimore, following a mute custodian at a high-security government laboratory who befriends a captured humanoid-amphibian creature. It gave me The Little Mermaid vibes and Ariel is my favorite Disney princess. Except in this case the girl is human and becomes a sea creature instead of the other way around. I enjoyed this movie use of a mute person, which allowed you to see the physical chemistry between the animal and Elisa. But I will mention that the scene where they have sex kind of creeps me out. Though anyone should be able to be with who they want to be, it still grossed me out. Also, why did Elisa assume a towel by the door was going to stop water from coming out of the bathroom???? My favorite aspect of this movie though was the soundtrack/score. Though most of was in French, so I ...
